Dear Lord, what did we get ourselves into?.... Yes, that's right, it is a b e a utiful mess!

Needless to say, the past few weeks have been really tough. Right as I got off the plane from the UK I found out my Papa had gotten sick while I was gone, and he was in the hospice home. He had been doing really well until this past Thursday, and passed away on Sunday. He loved me bringing him pictures of the house and was looking forward to having Christmas here, and our wedding next June. It's gonna be hard not having him here, but he is with our family, walking those streets of gold, and talking with Jesus.

My sweet Papa Humphries.

Papa with my Mama and Daddy.

I miss you and love you Papa, but I'll see you again one day.

A lot of things have happened since the last blog post on the house. It is coming together, and before too long we will have walls and siding. YAY!

The old cement stoop and porch have came off.

The whole house.

Right when we got back, Jordan and I tore down the old ceiling in the bathroom and laundry room.

Look at the ceiling.

It was such a mess.

Now look, we have the framing of a front porch!!

Front porch

The bathroom ceiling is cleaned out!

More front porch views

I'm going to have two rocking chairs and some nice seasonal decorations on the porch.

Now, we had to rip out the walls.

There's Sheetrock.

Look how cool the chimney is with the old brick

More Sheetrock pictures

The other side of the chimney

This doorway will be gone momentarily. It will be way more opened to the kitchen

We have no walls in the bedroom

You can see into the man room

I was so very excited because of this. I thought that the archway was just made from Sheetrock, but it was actually hand carved out of wood for us to keep the character.

Without Sheetrock... This will probably be our office or library space

Big boards of Sheetrock

These were interesting pieces of Sheetrock... It may just be that I'm a history teacher, but these sure do look like Virginia and North Carolina

Remember that doorway that I said would change... Well it's open now.

Outside of the house

Look at our porch!!!

More of the porch

It's going to look beautiful

I'm in love with the porch and can't wait to sit out here

The back yard

The back of the house.

One more view of the porch.

Originally, this is where the post would end... I'd been working on this one while Papa was sick, and so many more things have happened since then. So, here we go.....

Our front door!!!!

It was clean for a little bit

Back door and laundry room looks good.

Back deck or stoop

Our porcelain tub in the guest bath

Our shower base in the master bathroom.

These are the most up to-date pictures that I have. Other things have been completed... Some siding has been put on... But that will wait to the next blog post. I am thankful for everything that has happened to the house, but I'm even more thankful that Papa was able to see it in the works. I know he'd be happy, and although he won't physically be there with us at Christmas or on our wedding day, I know he will be watching us every step of the way, and guiding our family as we become the Jessups, and move into our southern home.

This one is dedicated to "Papa" Gilbert Lee Humphries April 25, 1931- August 3, 2014

I love you!
